Hi Ryan - I am going to Death Valley to climb next week.  Can you give me any helpful info regarding Emigrant Pass West and Wildrose?  Also, have you climbed Emigrant East?   Thank you.

John- Emigrant West is kind of a mix between pavement and dirt.  Road is pretty beat up, but it was easily doable on a road bike back in February.  The section of Wildrose above the Emigrant intersection is paved for the first handful of miles until you hit some pretty loose/rocky gravel.  I went a bit up that, but was on pretty skinny tires, so it got a bit rough.  Would be fun to go beyond that on some 40mm knobbies or a MTB.  I have not done Emigrant East, but I've heard that the road is generally to the top of the West side, which is totally fine and entirely paved.  Let me know if you have other specific questions.
